The following projects and initiatives highlight NHS's focus on research:

O'Neill Institute The O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law is the premier center for health law, scholarship, and policy. The O’Neill Institute was formally established in 2007 though a generous gift by Linda and Timothy O’Neill to respond to the need for innovative solutions to the most pressing health concerns facing the nation and the world. The O’Neill Institute is a joint project of the Law Center and School of Nursing and Health Studies and draws upon the University’s considerable intellectual resources, including the School of Medicine, the Public Policy Institute, and the Kennedy Institute of Ethics.

Global HIV/AIDS Nursing Capacity Program (CBP). Funded by PEPFAR (President's Emergency Program for AIDS Relief), the three-year project is designed to increase the capacity of nurses in South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia to address the complex challenges faced in providing effective HIV/AIDS prevention and clinical care.

The Pathways to Success Program focuses on capturing the interest of high school students in science-based health careers. The program's Summer Biomedical Science Institute is a 3-week annual actiity to (1) enhance students' academic skills; (2) spark enthusiasm for health-related careers; and (3) create a network for student participants.

The Center on Health & Education is directed by internationally renowned child development experts Craig and Sharon Ramey. The center is an interdisciplinary collaboration aimed at reducing ethnic disparities in health outcomes, by identifying the biological, psychological, and social factors that determine health among ethnic groups.
