On April 19 and 20, Georgetown University Law Center
and the School of Nursing & Health Studies (NHS) celebrated
the official launch of the Linda and Timothy O'Neill Institute
for National and Global Health Law.
The O’Neill Institute was created by a generous $10 million
gift from alumni Linda and Timothy O’Neill.
The institute is among the first for the study of global and national
health law, with centers on global health, disease prevention and
health outcomes, health regulation and governance, and health care
financing and organization.
The two-day event featured the inauguration of internationally
renowned legal scholar Lawrence O. Gostin as the Linda and Timothy
O’Neill
Professor of Global Health Law.
It also included keynote addresses by leaders in various sectors,
as well as a series of academic panels on related topics.
Timothy O’Neill is the senior strategy officer at Goldman
Sachs & Co. in New York. A 1977 graduate of Georgetown Law, he
is a member of the university’s Board of Directors and chairman
of the finance committee.
Linda O’Neill graduated from Georgetown University School
of Nursing & Health Studies in the same year and is the current
chair of the school’s Board of Visitors.
